Another Indian Hero In Malaysian Football

R. Gopinathan Grabs Player of Week

 

Every week a portal dedicated to soccer ‘Goal’ has been selecting the best player from all the leagues played in South East Asia. This week, R. Gopinathan from Pahang has been awarded with the title.

He has topped above Teeratep Winothai of Police United FC from Thailand and Ricky Ohorella of Semen Padang from Indonesia. They both has been selected as honourable mentions by the soccer portal.

R. Gopinathan was born in Kuantan, Pahang on 15th December 1989 and will be soon celebrating his 25th birthday. From a very young age, R. Gopinathan has showed his interest in footbaal. He started his career as a Pahang player in President’s cup competition in 2009. Within 2 years he has been selected to represent Pahang senior team Malaysian league. Howver, he only played 2 games for the year. In 2012, he played for Shahzan Muda FC for 26 games and scored 6 goals.

After watching his growth he has rejoined to Pahang Senior team for the 2013 season where he contributed in winning the Malaysian Cup for Pahang after 21 years. To date he has played in 46 matches and scored 12 goals despite just being a midfield player. From the 12, 2 came from the semi-final match against Kedah where Pahang thrashed their opponent 5-0. R. Gopinathan’s stunning performance in this match earned him the South East player of the week award. That boosted him to ensure Pahang retain the Malaysia Cup for 2014.

With the ever improving performance, he was called to play for the national team in 2012. He had played 6 games so far and has been shortlisted for the Suzuki cup game against Vietnam on 14th November 2014. R. Gopinathan believes that, he will be given a chance to play in this game and determined to give his best.

While Indian Malaysian’s contribution in sports is being questioned in recent years, the success of R. Gopinathan will be a booster for the new generation Indians to excel in sports. iTimes wishing all the best to R. Gopinathan to continue his excellent form in football.
