All Indians Must Prosper
18 days more to go for Deepavali, people are already flooding the Indian streets for the shopping spree. This is a good news for all the business traders. This is the time for all of them to grab their profit as much as possible to cover their whole year income. Always people think that the traders will really eat a big lump of profit during this festive season. But nobody knows the challenge the traders go through this period of time.
Business of this traders are effected badly by the illegal and foreign traders who puts a shop without the permission of the local town council. The business of those who has legal license and invested thousands of money are drastically effected. This issue is not only happening in certain areas but almost in all area like Tengku Kelana (Klang), Little India (Brickfields), Jalan Ipoh, and even other states like Penang and Johor.
When iTimes.my contacted a few traders for their feed back, this is what we gathered:
“We are not against the illegal traders, we understand their hardship as they also want to make money during this festive season but they must get a permit or even a black and white permission. They should not run the trading illegally. Majlis Perbandaran Klang (MPK), should monitor and take action on this issue not only because it is effecting the business of the genuine traders but there are high opportunity for them to sell smuggled things like fire crackers as well. I hope our new MB will pay attention to this and give us a solution on this issue,” says Navin, Managing Director of Sri Rasi Textiles, Tengku Kelana.
“The municipal can always accommodate a specific location for this petty traders so that both also can survive equally in a healthy competition. It is really not fair to them. They have dump in a huge investment. On top of this, there are also bazaar and expo that is taking place everywhere which is already effecting roughly about 35% of their business. So we really hope that things can be taken in hand by the municipal,” says a prominent season contractor in Tengku Kelana, Vijayakumaran, Managing Director of Sri Sinar Construction.
iTimes.my crew never missed to get the publics opinion also. “I totally disagree with people who buys goods from foreigner for a cheaper price. We have to stop buying first before we complain on why there are here. We also must support our local businesses. Even I myself, always go for ‘Barangan Buatan Malaysia’ first. The same goes for this issue also. We stop and they will automatically stop,” said Murugesan.
“Buyers normally don’t bother from who they purchase. As long as what they purchase should be in a reasonable price. The reason why buyers are going to this type of shops especially the Pakistani traders is because things can be purchased at a best bargain. I don’t see the reason why buyers need to bother on who is selling. Normally local traders are costly and difficult to get a good bargain. Most of them are not even friendly and they also with a sulky face. But the foreigners are very warm and welcoming,” said Megala Narayanan.
There are many more dissatisfaction showed by the traders in many other places. Can MPK allocate separate location for this traders? Will MPK monitor the illegal business and foreigners without permit? Are the traders going to bare the same loss this again this year?
