The Foremost Book On Environment In Tamil By Sri Umeswaran
The book ‘Sutrusoolalai Nesipom’ which means love the environment is the first book on environment in Tamil being published in Malaysia and is endorsed by the Department of Environment (DOE), Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MNRE).
The book ‘Sutrusoolalai Nesipom’ is about 136 pages in bilingual covering the topics in both Tamil and English. Mr S. Sri Umeswaran’s first publication, ‘Sutrusoolalai Nesipom’ serves as an information avenue to educate the Tamil primary school students as well as public about the environment and sustainability. The book provides information about the importance of preserving the environment via images, graphics and text for easy comprehension.
The contents in Tamil and English enables the Tamil school students and members of the public to love the environment, to better appreciate and understand the environment as well as the importance of environment sustainability, by practicing environment friendly practices.
In line with providing factual and accurate information on the environment and sustainability to the members of the public particularly students, the proposed book is to instill greater awareness to the public at large on the environment and sustainability. Extreme weather events, weather related disasters, glacier retreats, threatened coastal areas, increased ocean acidity, heat waves, and changing animal and plant behavior are signs of global warming.
The environment is changing for the worse. However, this situation can be improved if everyone is concerned and care deeply about global warming by implementing environmental friendly practices to safeguard the Earth for future generations.
Sustainability is the capacity to endure. In ecology the word describes how biological systems remain diverse and productive over time. Long-lived and healthy wetlands and forests are examples of sustainable biological systems. For humans, sustainability is the potential for long-term maintenance of well being, which has ecological, economic, political and cultural dimensions.
Preserving the environment is important to ensure a balance in our eco-system. The lush greenery we enjoy today will soon disappear if we do not take care of it. Everyone has a duty to protect, to preserve the environment and most importantly to love the environment including children. Therefore, the book “Love the Environment” would serve to provide a platform of information and relevant materials that would enable members of the public especially students to appreciate the environment and understand sustainability.
The contents of the ‘Sutrusoolalai Nesipom’ book contain 50 topics such as elements of nature such as air, water, earth and fire, renewable and non-renewable natural resources, waste management and the importance of recycling, global warming; sustainability, ecological footprint, life cycle assessment (LCA) and many more.
